Modern Gene Autry

DSCN0293

Yeeee Hawwww! Here are two of my daughters, Heidi (white shirt), and Christina (blue bandana) riding in Redstone, Colorado.

Both ride well, sing like meadowlarks, play guitar, saw on the violin delightfully, and carry big knives. Did I mention that they carry big knives? They can throw a rope, shoot straight, and skin an elk. Did I mention that they can skin an elk?

I have heaps of fun with these gals and I’m one proud papa.

Heidi is singing in Denver in a few weeks, and wants me to back her up on my banjo. To be honest, she’s really good by herself.

A modern Gene Autry, that’s what she is.

Yeeeee Hawwww!

No Banjos at the Bank

DSCN0858

Yesterday I stopped into the bank for some transactions and a cup of coffee. I thought it would be a good idea to use the restroom before standing in a long line.

As I walked to the restroom I saw a sign under the restroom sign that said “banjos”.

Being a pretty fair banjo player myself, I wanted to check out the bank’s banjos. There must be a great collection of them here at the bank.

But the banjo sign led me right into the restroom. “They must be mounted on the wall,” I thought to myself.

To my dismay, I never found the banjos. I looked everywhere. Under the sink, above the paper towel holder, and inside every stall. What a rip off.

Oh well. It’s late at night and I’ve got to get to bed. As they say in Mexico, “Bonus nachos!”

Poor Grades

National Children’s Book Week is almost
coming to a close, and so is my Blogathon 2010. If you haven’t
guessed by now, I give cave tours in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. I’ve
also written and illustrated a new children’s book entitled “Dad,
the Tooth Fairy Didn’t Come!” www.jerrybegly.com/tooth. What else
is going on in my life? I teach skiing in Aspen, Colorado. I’m
building a 3400sf. Log chalet off the grid high in the Colorado
Rockies. My 7 children, my wife, and I are building it all
ourselves. Literally all of it (with very few exceptions). I enjoy
jeeping, hiking, mountain climbing, fishing, playing my banjo, and a
multitude of other pastimes. When it comes to grading me on life, I
get all “F”s. Faith, Family, Friends, Fun are the mainstays of my
existence. Oh, and Food. Thanks for the Fajitas, today, guys…
